The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro was officially established on July 7, 1920, but its higher education can be traced back to the Royal Military Academy established in 1792 and the national art school established in 1820. In 1937, the University was once renamed the University of Brazil. Until 1965, it was incorporated into the federal education system and renamed the University of the Rio Federation. The university has 49 departments and more than 3000 teachers. School of law and economics, School of mathematics and natural sciences, School of medicine, School of philosophy and humanities, School of literature, School of engineering, culture and Science Forum, etc.
