Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the current central bank of India. It was established on April 1, 1935. It was initially private and later changed to government-owned in 1949. Its headquarters is located in Mumbai. RBI's main responsibilities include formulating, implementing and monitoring monetary policy; managing and supervising the operation of banks and financial systems; foreign exchange control and management; currency issuance, etc.
