The predecessor of the Korean National Bank was the (old) National Bank established on February 1, 1963. In the 1990s, it merged Dadong bank and long-term credit bank respectively. After the Asian financial crisis, on April 23, 2001, the old national bank was instructed by the government to merge with the Korean housing bank to become the largest commercial bank in Korea, Thus a new national bank was born. At present, the National Bank has 25 million customers in Korea, accounting for 57% of the Korean population. National Bank has a total assets of 177.3 billion US dollars, nearly 1303 branches at home and abroad and 25 million customers. Regardless of assets, business outlets and customer networks, national banks have become the first in China. In 2007, the National Bank of Korea, one of the world's top 500 enterprises, ranked 349.
