The Liberal Party of Canada is one of the two major political parties in Canada (the other is the Conservative Party of Canada). It was established in 1873. Its political position is left in the middle - left compared with the Conservative Party of Canada, but right compared with the New Democratic Party of Canada. Because it has been in power for nearly 69 years during the 20th century, it is often called "the ex officio ruling party of Canada".
