Joensuun yliopisto is a well-known international university in Finland. It was established in 1969 and has established cooperative relations with 55 universities around the world. It is the coordinator and Silva network of Finnish Russian Multinational Universities (a university network providing master's and doctoral programs in forestry in Europe), the current president of the University, is also a member of the European University Foundation, the Nordic center of Fudan University in China and the Nordic center in India. It is also a cooperative University of the United Nations Environment Programme. The university has six departments, including the Department of education, the Department of forestry, the Department of humanities, the Department of natural sciences, the Department of Social Sciences and the Department of theology.
