The United States Navy (usually abbreviated as USN or U.S. Navy) is an integral part of the U.S. Army and is responsible for naval related affairs. The predecessor of the US Navy is the continental Navy established in the war of independence. Up to now, it has become the most powerful naval force in the world, with 11 aircraft carriers, more than 3700 aircraft and nearly 500000 active and reserve soldiers (data in June 2013).
