Lawrence University is a well-known American College of Arts and Sciences. It is also one of the few schools in the United States with a teacher-student ratio of less than 1:9. It was established in 1847 and is located in Appleton, Wisconsin (Appleton), the most famous school of music and the Department of biology, ranked 59th in the 2015 U.S. News ranking of American colleges of Arts and Sciences; its 1962 alumnus Thomas A. Steitz won the 2009 Nobel Prize in chemistry.
