The French presidential palace (Elys é e - PR é sidence de la R é Publique) is the official residence of the French president. It is used for the presidential office and for receiving important foreign guests. It is located in the Elysee Palace in the eighth District of Paris (French: Palais de l 'É Lys é E; also translated: Elysee Palace). The president of France is the head of state and commander of the French armed forces. He is in charge of the executive power and is directly elected by all French eligible voters for a term of five years (the term of office before 2002 was seven years) and can be re elected once.
