Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) is a national research institution in Australia. Its predecessor was the scientific and Industrial Advisory Committee established in 1926 (Advisory Council of science and industry), headquartered in Canberra, the capital, and has a branch in the Australian National University. CSIRO's main research achievements include: atomic absorption spectroscopy, the world's first plastic banknote, aerial insect repellent, gene paste technology, promotion of a series of pest control systems, and panoptic search engine (now renamed funnelback), votapedia telephone questionnaire system, annodex video content annotation system, etc.
