The World Health Organization (who) is the largest public health organization in the world. It is a subsidiary body of the United Nations. It was established in 1948 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The main responsibilities of who include combating epidemics and endemic diseases, promoting the establishment of international standards for biological products, and providing and improving teaching and training in public health, disease medicine and related matters. Who has six regions in the world: Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, Eastern Mediterranean, Western Pacific and America, with a total of 194 member countries (as of March 2014).
