The recording industry association of America (RIAA) is an industry organization in the United States. Founded in 1952, it is composed of a number of record companies and distributors. The American recording industry association participates in the collection, management and distribution of music licensing and royalties, and is also responsible for the certification of gold and platinum albums and single albums in the United States.
